PROJECT TITLE: Modernized Mayan
SIZE: 1,000 sq. ft.
SEMESTER: Fall 2010
PROJECT: Individual
TYPE: Retail
DURATION: 6 Weeks
SCOPE:
The new Modernized Mayan design for the Godiva retail store will be a way of taking the consumer
back to a time when chocolate was a delicacy reserved for the gods, and served to them as a
sacrifice. Godiva would like to re-elevate chocolate to its previous place of power, while treating the consumer to an exciting, luxurious, and new shopping experience. The atmosphere will be reminiscent of a Mayan temple due to the use of pattern and tiering inspired by real-life mayan ziggurats. A contemporary touch will be provided through the selection of finishes and by reinterpreting mayan patterns and designs in the retail fixtures.
The store will accomodate a grand temple room that will serve as the store’s demonstration theater space, as well as a drink counter that will serve chocolate and coffee beverages. The traditional Godiva method of self-serve chocolate display will be incorporated into the new retail design while highlighting certain aspects of Mayan architecture. Overall, the store will be rich, glowing, and luxurious.
