Jon Marrelli - Final Student Portfolio

For my final portfolio I have selected a number of still life compositions, all of which focus on texture, detail, form, shape, and color. To produce these images, I worked with long exposure times and light painting techniques to place highlights where I wanted them. The long exposure light painting can give images an illustrated feeling, while also bringing out a tremendous amount of detail and texture in the subject.

These images were produced almost entirely in camera using studio strobes, ambient light, and a flashlight. Capture One Pro was used to develop the digital files, and Photoshop was used to clean up a few details in one image, and in one image combine multiple exposures to produce the final image (as studio strobes were unavailable).

My goal with this portfolio was to demonstrate a strong understanding of technical studio photography. Understanding and utilizing the properties and characteristics of light in combination with the principles and elements of design, I composed, lit, captured, and developed each still life. I feel that this portfolio is successful in demonstrating an understanding of the tools and techniques of professional studio photography.
Next Steps:

I hope to use this portfolio to find work as a grip or assistant on commercial photo sets, in order to continue learning the craft and business of professional photography. My long term goals are to work in commercial, product, and advertising oriented photography.
