While creating a microsite based upon sustainability, I wanted to pick a topic that I am interested in, in addition to an issue that’s necessary for today's day and age. With that being said, I decided to focus my microsite on the issues of fast fashion and its effects on the environment. I knew this topic would be relatable among young adults, and teenagers. I believe more and more young adults are becoming more sustainably aware of what's going on if our environment and small ways we as individuals can help. Within the topic of fast fashion, I thought with the heavily increased use of buying clothes online in addition to social media, this topic would be something young adults would be interested in learning/ reading with the right layouts and designs. Within the creation of my design, I wanted to focus on creating a microsite that was minimalism in design and incorporate design principles from fashion websites and blogs. One example of incorporating fashion websites I decided to use the google font ‘Playfair display’ which I believed most matched the logo/ font to Vogue magazine. I used this font for the headings of each section throughout my microsite, these sections included: Climate Change, Fast Fashion, Paris Agreement, & Act now. With each section, I wanted to include the important information within each topic. Since fast fashion and climate change are such a heavily impacted problem, I went through my sources finding the information that is most relevant, that wouldn't cause a reader to become disengaged throughout the site. Using the google font ‘raleway’ for my body text- I choose a less bold font that would not compete with my heading fonts. I decided to incorporate direct URLs, where users could find additional information if they wanted to. In addition, Included a link to a video where users could learn more information over why we consume so much clothing. With the use of interactivity, I incorporated many overlay designs: this technique was used so the user could hover over an image or text and receive additional images, or factual information. With the incorporation of overlays, I believe it helped the use of my microsite to be more interactive and engaging to the users. For my call to action, I decide to inform users of an additional campaign on how to limit your use of fast fashion. The ‘Act Now’ campaign gives users tips and tricks on how to be more sustainable. My hope within this microsite, that with the effective use of images and factual information- that people will become more aware of their unsustainable fashion consumption and will learn effective ways to become more environmentally friendly in terms of fast fashion.
