ARUBA
Aruba is an acrylic on canvas of a motel in Aruba; a tropical paradise and dream Spring break vacation destination. The architecture of the motel was first sketched out on a bare canvas then the colors were later filled in. The light blue sky was the first thing to be painted. The bright blue sky represents the endless filled bluebird days that fill the Caribbeans year round Summers. The roof of the pool house is turquoise which mimics the turquoise waters found in the sea. The clouds are soft and wispy and their pink and yellow colors bring add another depth to the already very warm setting.

This painting is inspired by an Airbb that I came across when researching for a family trip. I admired the architecture and felt the need to portray it through my eyes. I simplified the details to make it look like a cartoon by blocking out the shading. I originally planned to fill in the deck with many chairs umbrellas and towels laying out in the sun but decided to keep in simple so all the focus could remain on the sky, building, and pool. I tend to fill in my paintings with too much detail and found this a good exercise for me to try. The clouds were originally all white until I was encouraged to fill them in with other colors. I decided to mirror the pink in the descend the yellow border of the pool.
