I created a program for a dance performance at an art festival in Washington, D.C. The performance featured dances that explored a range of topics, from the grief experienced from sexual assault to the writings of Ernest Hemingway and the music of composer Arvo Pärt. The dark, bold headings are meant to mimic the permanence of indelible words or images, and the art deco typeface evokes the era of Hemingway's writings that inspired several of the dances.
The client was looking for a low-cost printing solution, so the four-sided brochure can be printed on one sheet of paper in black & white, while still providing dimension through layered, grayscale text and a combination of art deco and traditional typefaces.
