Sport and leisure center, Aszód

PROGRAM
Here, I would like to present my diploma, which I have been working on through one semester. As a local resident, I chose the city of Aszód for the theme of my diploma. It is a small town with 6000 residents, located in the agglomeration of Budapest, an important center for the nearby villages related to administration, education, culture and trade. Due to its location and benefits, it is a famous target for families to move in. It is a charming town with rich history, castles, classicists’ buildings, shops along the main street and beautiful nature. In the beginning of the semester, I analysed the city in urban context, and made a research poll, which clearly illustrated that services, sport and recreation chances are poor. As for the result, I made a complex concept, in order to strengthen its identity and becoming more attractive and liveable cities for youngsters by offering more leisure activities. Regarding to the transportation, severe problems could be solved by a bypass road, which would reduce the crowd in the main street, and a bicycle road across the city too. In accordance with the current residential area extensions, I propose the development of recreational areas utilizing the natural values of the city. As for the problem of lack of green areas, I make a green network with parks, alleys, playgrounds.                                CONCEPT
The planning area is located next to one of the city centers: the market. The new function, sport and recreational center would strengthen the central role of the area, which fits into the system of green areas. Here, I imagined gym and multifunctional rooms which can be hired by local firms for dance, aerobics, yoga, etc. classes, adapted to the scale and agglomeration of the town. As for the recreation, I design bowling alley, street workout, park, playground at the nearby Kondoros square and hiking routes in the close Berek forest. A brook called Breda brook flows next to the area, which is located in a valley. My architectural concept is to joint the market and new function with a park, usable for fairs and events for the sport centre as well, by pavilions. The building reflects to the surrounding topography and family housing area, shaping a unique roof. On the ground floor, there are coffee shop, bowling related to leisure (and serving functions e.g. mechanical room, sanitary, storage). On the first floor, gym, multifunctional rooms and changing rooms are situated related to sport activity. Function requires high inner height. Parking is possible both on the site and surrounding area. Both for interior and exterior design, I used wooden textures: a special shading system for the facades made of redwood (sometimes rotatable elements), and wooden ceiling in the main rooms (coffee, bowling, sport).
