Created a background using watercolour paints and pencils over a printed out gradient from Pshop, then scanned back into Photoshop
Image created by V.White
Created a mask of the face area for selection
Roughly blocked out the light and dark areas
Slowly defined detail
Smoothing down the areas of light an dark
Brought up the brightness
Printed out and started to over-paint the image
Added as style/blend effect layers
Dropped the saturation
Brought back the background
Printed out and painted over again and scanned back in as draft
Added more layers using: Colour dodge, Pinlight, Colour burn etc
The large white area started to dominate the image and needed cooling or breaking up
Again building up the layers
Lost the pencil lines, added them back in with Pshop, Create line, copy, blur the one under, merge and then multiply over image, blended well.
Not happy with the digital signature, removed the steal blue tint from the scanner.
This whole project is to explore media pressure sales on the youth of today.

Case in point
I saw one of my teenage friend’s make-up tables and then I saw her bathroom cabinet. I was truly shocked at the sheer amount of products that this poor girl was using. I truly feel that this is unacceptable, and that the large amount of these so called ‘Beauty enhancement products’ were just media sales.

The list would be almost endless of where to apply this or how to apply that, and it goes on, it is truly frightening to behold, how could so many chemicals be good for you over a lifetime?

My friend, she is truly beautiful without the aid of these products ... so why?
This is my interpretation of these media must have products.

Added a written signature from scan as overlay. Final image
