Typography Through Time

In Project Two we were tasked with creating an engaging and aesthetically pleasing timeline that displays the time period assigned. The era my timeline covers is from 1890 to 1994. I attempted to compile interesting information about typography and show its significance in comparison to other historical events. I wanted to use the geometric elements of the timeline to create visual interest without rigidly dividing the page.

I used Bodoni and its variations for the typeface of my timeline. I chose this font because I enjoy its characteristics of high contrast in line quality and easy legibility. Bodoni also experienced a revitalization in the early 20th century, so I found it to be a fitting typeface. I tried to use differences in scale to create visual hierarchy and a grid system to organize the components of my timeline. My biggest struggle was figuring out how to create a layout that works best with all of the folded panels.
Below are several of the previous iterations for the layout of my timeline. I felt they were lacking in depth, so I attempted to add more with my final design.
