Based off the previous project labeled as Kuala Lumpur Branding Part - 1, this is a continuation of how further the design could go further.
This was the final design after countless trial and errors, but after a while the color would be quite painful to look at, especially in a dark room. As a result, I went back to the very basics of how I can make the icon be less colorful while maintaining the original element which is the "KL" part of the icon.
Firstly, I removed the infamous Twin Towers, and went back to the base design itself.
These first two mock up designs was a clear indicator that not much could be done within the icon itself, but rather to embrace the "KL" icon.
I was quite fond of this design, using reference from Islamic Architecture from Mosques surrounding Kuala Lumpur. Ultimately, the design wasn't good enough as it just didn't have the feel I was hoping to catch with Kuala Lumpur.
I then decided to take a closer look at what was great about Kuala Lumpur, I even took time to understand the flag colors to see how exactly I could fit it into the design.
After some brainstorming and references, I realized how interesting the shape of Kuala Lumpur was.
The shape of the city itself was very interesting and has many edges. I then did a rough trace of the shape of the city before adding the colors of the "Jalur Gemilang", the national flag.
I managed to not only get the shape of the city, but later only divided it into multiple geometric parts and also adding some opacity to them.
The final outcome.
