Kuala Lumpur Branding - Part 1

The brief given was to design and create a new icon and brand name for Kuala Lumpur following the recent trend of cities around the world having their own icons and branding.
The initial concept and idea was to find a tagline to come along with the branding, that was the easy and fun part. After that it was all mainly trying to find the right balance between the colors along with what elements to put in it.
In this case, the country's national flower, the Hibiscus, was to be the only element next to a line of text showing the city's name. This concept although I enjoyed creating it, was not really what I thought could reflect more about the city's branding.
After that , I tried playing with silhouettes of the famous and tallest buildings in Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Twin Towers and the KL Tower. The composition was scrapped but the idea of using the buildings stayed.
The eventual outcome was a branding full of different shapes and color which creates the acronym for Kuala Lumpur while also giving a subtle feel of the Petronas Twin Towers.

After staring at this city branding for sometime however, I eventually lost interest and decided to go deeper into finding out what I can do with the branding even more.
I decided to look back on the acronym of Kuala Lumpur, which is KL, and created a 3D version of it, lines were added later on to give a clear view of how it would look when segmented.
After experimenting with the colors and how it would look under different conditions. I eventually reached the point of which I decided to bring back the Twin Towers back into the design for the branding.
The final outcome looks nothing more than the pencils I used to stack up back in school, and it does indeed carry that reason to remind us of our childhood. The bright colors were mean't to symbolize the vibrance and different personalities/sides of Kuala Lumpur.
The Twin Towers serve as the center of Kuala Lumpur along with it being a famous tourist attraction.
