A NEW LOOK FOR PiLA & MATERIALS TO PROMOTE THEIR GALA

Create a visual look to reflect the good works PiLA does and it’s Latin connections/community.
> Latin American bold colors that are energetic and playful, taking inspiration form street or folk art.
> Put up-front, the fellows and the communities they serve, visually and with crafted language.
Promote the November NYC gala featuring the former president of Costa Rica, the idea of "measuring the impact," and building awareness around the organization's 15th anniversary.

Aug 3-24: Visual Identity System, graphics, and gala promo video
Oct 5-27: gala brochure

THE BRIEF: Initially, the client wanted a brochure designed but after the on-boarding call it was clear that with a gala two months away and celebrating their 15th anniversary it was the perfect time to get alumni re-engaged and elevate the brand. The brief grew to 1] develop a bolder visual look for the organization 2] make the logo more impactful 3] create social media graphics and video assets 4] build a system that would be easy to manage for the one to two team members who do the work.

PROCESS
I spent an hour before our on-boarding call to get a sense of PiLA's mission and then talked with the program manager about objectives and needs. Another volunteer was helping with digital marketing strategy so I focused on visual design. The previous logo had degraded and I was able to track down what font it was to recreate it—as well as remove and reorganize elements to increase the power of four simple letters PiLA. I also researched and found some bold fonts the organization could use and crafted a visual identity before creating the graphics. We didn't have much time so my goal was to keep it simple and bring everything together so the look could be reviewed at some point after the gala. However, the new look was needed to take advantage of this being their 15th anniversary and really strengthen their brand. See the creative brief I presented two weeks after the on-boarding call, and a week after getting materials and having a second call with the digital marketer about deliverables needed.
