RADIX SYSTEMA
A Computer Application-based Interactive Installation Art
Interact by the audio input, mouse click and drag
-------------------------------------------
Radix Systema code was originally written by Daniel Shiffman as Flocking. I edited it by adding sound input and the triangle gate, change the position and change the forms into somewhat looks like wire or reptiles.
These digital wires or reptiles are also in my imagination feel as a new system which bursts out of the roots from the digital land. As Radix itself is a Latin word for “root” and Root can be considered a synonym for the base in the arithmetical sense, the Radix Systema is also the root for sound where the sound from the surrounding are caught and echoed through the computer. It is indeed ludicrous when people don’t intentionally participate in the work by moving or clicking the mouse but even their footsteps near the work are intriguing.
The editing result of code from the original however shows us how the intellectuality which was created by the technological development has made something less meaning and value. The red gate which was drawn by creators will somehow covered by other creators in no limitation of time. There is nothing new in it since there must be some firstly original pieces behind it. With this kind of technology, humans are no longer feel the necessity of being connected with the arts morally but only to the game of shallowness and ludicrous. The creation may look catchy for the art demand but not fully for the sake of therapeutic of the artist and the whole community.
