Catalog Projects: Tilton Brands

 
Catalogs were an important sales tool at Tilton Engineering, due to the personal nature in which they are often sold, and because of the extensive worldwide distributor network. At one time there were five individual brands being marketed by Tilton, and each required a flagship catalog. In time the various brands were merged together to unify marketing strategies, and a single catalog was produced.
 
Below I include each catalog, with general information, in rough chronological order.

The product of a unified marketing strategy, this catalog encompasses Tilton's wide range of product offerings for the vehicle race market. Printed on dull stock, and using flat visual textures, the design steered towards a nostalgic throwback to the origins of Tilton, when the founder began his company while racing Datsun vehicles with the BRE race team.

Inks: Hand-mixed custom yellow, Pantone 877 (metallic grey), Process CMYK


The TB&C catalog was printed on gloss stock, utilizing a custom mix yellow and Pantone metallic inks, in combination with CMYK. A gloss Spot UV was used to accent the cover image. The interior sections were separated by a start page sowcasing an iage printed using pure metallic ink, and detailed feature highlights were used to make the different product features stand out.
 
The metallic on white provided a very interesting image texture when held against the light.
 
The same metallic image, with the light shifted, provides a pleasing grey image, so the effect isn't lost in the right light, only subdued.

Tilton Driveline Components was the flagship product line for Tilton at the time of catalog creation. The cover was printed in two solid colors, black and Pantone 199, and featured a detailed foil embossing for both art and text. The emboss was not only eye-catching, but also served to highlight the thoughtful and creative design Tilton put into it's product design. Inside, large photos were used the break up the voluminous data, styled in a tabled format to enable customers and distributors find the right equipment for whatever project they were working on.
