2001 is a collage work that discusses the relationship between contemporary art and the public by putting a representative work of Lucio Fontana into a middle age style background. It is inspired by a scene in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, when the apes surrounding the monolith and gain intelligence and the ability to use tools and weaponry after they touched it. Similar to the monolith in the movie, the painting of Lucio Fontana here connects the past and the future of the art world.
