She’d been so obsessed with being loved by others. And she thought that, if she is not perfect, they would not love her anymore. So she tried to wrap herself up.  As an extreme case she tried to stay tiny by loosing weight. She realized that there's only her distortion on the mirror not the way she is. She couldn’t be and love herself as she is and that’s why she always desired for love of others in spite of they already love her. 

I especially concentrated on her insight of distortion of her body which can lead to death when it’s severe.
