Getting the chance to record dialogue and do sound editing for this short horror animatic was a great experience. Sound treatment for horror films, after all, is entirely different from other dramas. The designer must create a tone of intensity and building dread to warrant anticipation from viewers, even when nothing may be happening on screen. For such a short story, I was tasked with the challenge of building an unsettling atmosphere in a short time without making it overbearing. I used reverberation, delay, and pre-verb techniques to make everyday sounds off-putting or otherworldly. Though this was a simple assignment for an animation colleague of mine, I enjoyed working on it and exploring the world of audio for horror.
