CORE-Crowdsourcing Synbiology

CORE (Crowdsourcing Open Redesign Engine) is a software system about synthetic biology prepared by SYSU-Software, a team made up of undergraduates from Sun Yat-sen University, to take part in 2015 IGEM (International Genetical Engine Machine Competition). CORE is an open and extensible software that allows users to design, share and cooperate in synthetic biology.
PROBLEM & CHALLENGE
We read past teams' reports and some scholars' articles and discussed them on the rally held every week. Based on past work of SYSU-Software in 2014 about simplifying the procedure of genetic circuit design, we determined to further facilitate the process and design more functions to develop a more comprehensive system.

We divided users according to their research field and experience:
SOLUTION
After 2 months’ exploration, we confirmed some problems that we can tackle based on past work. Later, we started to brainstorm and select the best solution. This process lasted for 1 month.
WIREFRAMES
With important functions and requirements defined, I started to draw the wireframes of each part.
INTERFACE
Results: iGEM 2015 Best Software Project, Gold Award.
