Villainous Grounds

My latest project from my Typography class. Our assignment consisted of working with marketing students from another class at my university to create a new advertising campaign for the business Villainous Grounds. Villainous Grounds is a coffee and comic book shop based out of my hometown in Perryville Missouri. My role in the project was to create all of our proposed new designs and work on their possible new image as a brand. This is my Villainous Grounds Business Card design. On this card you can see my logo design and their basic contact information.
This is my Gift Card design. I decided to make it very similar to the business card design, but with the addition of the gift bow and the clarification of it being a gift card.
This is my Open Mic Night poser design. Villainous Grounds does not currently host an Open MIc Night event, however it was one of my groups proposed events to bring in more business. With this design I used the same colors and textures as my other designs in order to continue to push my Villainous Grounds branding ideas.
This is the Villainous Grounds Coffee Sleeve design, I chose to keep this very simple by making my logo design one color in order to keep printing costs down.
This is a small extra idea I presented to the owner of Villainous. I told her that anything small that will push the idea of comics to the forefront of peoples' minds while they are in the coffee area will help with their brand image. These are possible labels that they could use in the confections display counter.
I have saved the best for last. This is my menu design for Villainous Grounds. I chose to use an 11x17 paper size that opened up and presented itself like a comic book. The red area is the front of the menu with the logo being front and center. I added a "coffee ring" like circle in the background in order to pay tribute to one of the designs the owner had created herself that she had really liked. The blue area of the design is the back of the menu. I edited some of the content my marketing group had gathered from a Q and A with the owner and created a mission statement like proclamation from the family that owns the business.
Finally, this is the inside of my menu design. There was a lot of information to deal with and at first I struggled with finding a way to format all of the information. Then suddenly it dawned on me, what a better way to push the idea of comics while in a coffee shop than using the format of a comic book itself? In addition to using the boxes to section off each area I used speech bubbles to assist in creating sections to head each menu section. At first I had plain black strokes on the outside of the boxes, but it looked very cold. After adding the varied textured strokes to the boxes as well as the texture that I had used in some of my other designs to the blue boxes I called it complete.
