SOARING EPIC COLLAGE

For many years I have been creating these hand-assembled collage illustrations that tell a visual story.

Each collage piece begins with a theme which guides the creation process and helps determine the overall layout.

Images are chosen, adjusted and sized appropriately for their position in the scene. These individual elements are printed, physically cut out, and combined together to create the separate sections of the work.

Each section is glued together and assembled onto a large sheet of thick art paper. These sections are then blended together seamlessly with paint. Highlights and shadows are added in order to enhance the perspective of the scene.

The completed tableau collage is mounted onto a tempered masonite backing, using a vacuum heat press to completely flatten the illustration. As a final step, a matte finish, protective coating is applied to reduce the effects of light exposure.

When viewing the collage as a whole, this technique gives the viewer the impression of an elegant painting showing a magnificently detailed landscape.
