This illustration, meant to symbolise and pay homage to the land of the rising sun,
Japan, was created to celebrate 50 years of the friendship between Singapore and
Japan—as well as the rich history between these two asian countries
The focal point of this illustration is the boy and the lady who are located
alongside the damaged and bendy road. Mold hangs from the sign behind them,
to symbolise the conditions that even Japan might have gone through during
the period of WWII, regardless of their atrocities.
Yet despite the light air and aura of desolation that calls out from their faces,
the rising sun motive in the background beckons, symbolising that soon, the country
will rise from their ashes to become one of the most technologically advanced
and progressive nations of the 21st century.
