the necklace
The necklace Mawu-Lisa is a special concept developed for the Brazilian accessories brand Trocando em Miúdos. The challenge was to create a product for their new collection named “Identity”, which has been inspired by the history and identity of African people. For the concept I have chosen the African mythology of Mawu-Lisa.
Mawu-Lisa is a two-in-one creator God. A divine duality, Mawu is the female half, the creative Goddess of moon, and Lisa is the brotherly half, the sun God of daylight hours. Together they created the world and everything in it. They are described as an inseparable unity at the base of the universe. The idea for the necklace is a combination of two main elements picked from these gods, the figure of the moon and sun, in a minimalistic and not obvious way.
