Environmental Graphic Design: Greenville Federal Bank

Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) embraces many design disciplines including graphic, architectural, interior, landscape, and industrial design, all concerned with the visual aspects of wayfinding, communicating identity and information, and shaping the idea of creating experiences that connect people to place.

Essentially, EGD is branding places.
As the K4 Architecture Graphic Designer, I was able to create Environmental graphics for Greenville Federal Bank.

Although this is not my favorite piece, I had a lot of fun creating it. We had a very limited budget and an even more limited color palette. The space was amazingly small, and the branch itself was tucked in the corner of a Kroger, which needed to adhere to certain Kroger brand standards as well. Still, that did not deter me from creating something unique for them, in Troy, Ohio.

I really wanted to create a new logo for them, but that was not on the table. Instead, I created a simple storefront that wouldn't clash with the interior design of Kroger. Frosted window vinyl covers the front window, creating privacy for the office behind. The standard, marketing frames and hours of operations panel adorn the adjacent walls.

Using dimensional painted letters, the tagline was installed, following the curvature of the soffit below. To create a more separate space for each area of the bank, I created a simple line illustration of famous landmarks from the city, behind each locational signage and logo. I drew the Hayner Cultural Center for the storage boxes, the Ivan D. Terrell Memorial Fountain for the waiting area, and City Hall for the teller line.
