Chemical Physics Logo

The Chemical Physics department at my uni was celebrating its 50th anniversary and decided to hold a logo competition. This was an example of what was expected:
I really liked the idea of using bubbles to represent molecules, showing the different aspects of the specialisation. I was interested in conveying that more clearly:
This was the first version I made. The monochrome makes it look professional, but the text is not easily readable and it doesn't fit the feeling of the department. I kept the general idea for the second version, however I also added annotation-like underlinings to the text, to add to the theme of chemistry & physics.
I ended up getting the 3rd place! One lesson I learnt was that I should read the requirements more thoroughly, because it's very easy to render your design inadequate by forgetting to insert the university's name, for example.
