Hand drawn map of the West Hampstead Neighbourhood in North West London, illustrating all the interesting places nearby The Nido Collection student accommodation. This was realised to be featured in The Nido Collection newspaper, Fall 2015 edition ( http://bit.ly/1OEc9Vr ).

Firstly I drew the map by hand, just looking at Google Maps. No tricks. Probably not the smartest way, but I was particularly inspired...

 

Finished the drawing I scanned the paper and increased contrast and brightness in Photoshop.

With Illustrator I did Trace Outline in 16 colours, deleted all the colours not necessary and adjusted the various traces.

I tried different colour variations.

Eventually we decided to go for a softer pastel-like colour combination which would have been less invasive and more in line with the rest of the newspaper.

The final artwork with text boxes which was featured in the newspaper.
