The Source Magazine

For a Publications subject, our tutorial group was tasked with creating our own magazine. With only the title given to us, "The Source", we had to decide on the theme of our magazine and the content. We chose food as the theme of our magazine and everyone created their own articles and had to submit their own cover design for the magazine. Below is my cover design and article in the magazine.
Above is my cover design for the magazine. I decided to use food as part of the cover design in order to portray the theme quickly and easily to the viewer. Using shortbread, I hand cut each letter out of the dough, using templates printed from the computer. After baking the letters, I placed them on my floorboards and photographed them in the late afternoon. In post production, I added a warming filter over the image to enhance the colour in the floorboards and give the idea of warm baked cookies, fresh from the oven.
Above is my article printed in the magazine. With food being the main theme for the magazine, I decided to look into the use of food as a medium for art. With this in mind, I found a few different artists and their work, all who use food to create different images and words. Inspired by their work, I decided to try my hand at creating my own food art. So using cookie dough, I create my own edible typography. I then photographed it and used the images in the article as supporting images.
