“Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.” – Oscar Wilde

Many people aren’t aware of the negative stigmas attached to consumerism that has more to do with materialism than over- consumption. It is a means of purchasing items that you may not need only to satisfy yourself and reach a level of completeness, however there really is no end and becomes more of a routine then an innocent shopping spree. Charles Derber who was a professor of sociology at Boston College, mentioned “Buy and you shall be happy” this shows how society tricks you into purchasing materialistic items that will essentially make you happy but never really does.

“Consumed” is a story of how I forgot almost the essence of what makes me human, however resulted with a realisation that I am infact better then what society pins me to be. Being in the Makeup and Special Effects industry you tend to get caught up in a lifestyle that can be pretty soul sucking at times.

Within the media I came to realise that they do sell a specific lifestyle that shows representations of the most stylish muscle man standing next to his side is an anorexic model with tons of makeup plastered on her face. And society indeed compares you to this.

“Consumed” speaks about the fight that was within me, and how I found my worth only when I was stripped to my lowest as a person.

The copy was written and crafted in a tone, which shows the determination, passion and fight within the individual. Even though the images show restriction and vulnerability, the copy shows what is within my soul. The copy is short, as this sounds like a statement and command. Therefore, it shows strength and a new found stability. All copy relates to the image it is presented on. However, it can be read together as a whole.
