Apex Predator - Desktopography 2015

Apex Predator is my second submission to the Desktopography 2015 release.
As always, I'm proud to have my work featured alongside so many other talented artists, designers, and creators.

About this work

Apex Predator is a bit of an abstract piece that explores the illegal poaching of Bengal Tigers in a different way.

Here’s my breakdown:
Within the futuristic interface (heavily inspired by those seen in the movie Minority Report), some “infographics” give out a few notable statistics about the species, including basic metrics, and an approximation of how many animals are left in the wild. A digitized tiger breaks through the glass. I meant for this to serve as a warning that if human beings aren’t careful to preserve the species, the animal will be poached to extinction, and its existence will only be preserved in artificial ways – in this case, a screen display.

Artifacting, chromic aberration, and glitches are used throughout the whole piece as a further visual metaphor depicting the damage we are doing to the species.
