Freakonomics book cover design

The book - Freakonomics. It's at the heart of everything we do and the things that effect us daily, from sex to crime, parenting to polotics, fat to cheating, fear to traffic jams. It's all about using information about the world around us to get to the heart of what's really happening under the surface of everyday life.

This book cover design is my representation of Freakonomics. The illustration I created is an image that came to mind from reading the stories within it. The authors have tried to deliver the information in a fun, story- telling way so I wanted my graphic to do the same. I wanted people to question why an AK-47 might ever be placed next to a childs cot, and open the book to find out the story behind it.

I have depicted the Twin Towers in eery childish way, with the aim of not offending. The towers alone as an image are so full of impact and the book refers to 9/11 quite a few times, so i made this the smallest part of the illustration. The shadow of light running around the cover is to act as moonlight shining through a childs bedroom window.

I like the fact my design doesn't look modern, as the topics in the book are not overly so.
