GoodGraciousAlive Branding Project

Name: Good Gracious Alive
Subtitle: Cafe & Study

The idea was place where people can actually get a substantial amount of food but also hang out and be a place of study for commuter students.

We thought that the logo should work around a study idea but also not be specific to “breakfast” or “lunch” food but rather something that covers both.

The client wished to stay AWAY from the typical “Cafe” logos that mainly focused on coffee so that his customers would know that the restaurant served food that they would come sit down to eat as well as take with them to go.
COLOR PALETTE

For the color palette, we chose a more desaturated palette with the exception of our three main saturated color which we agreed should be used as highlight colors more than main content colors. The idea behind the colors is to have more earth-tones that are still bright enough to help sell the idea of a breakfast/lunch cafe. With those colors, I of course added in tints and tones to help create a deeper palette to work with.
TYPOGRAPHY

When we were choosing the main typefaces for the brand, I thought it was important that we have a good contrast between clean and formal. These typefaces help to reinforce the “study” part of the GoodGraciousAlive brand without being too formal. Because of its serifs helping to convey a natural “book” style, I felt that using Lucida Fax for body copy fit well. For titling, I chose Segoe UI because it has many weights and is so clean that it can be read even at smaller sizes.
MENU

The design for the menu was a bit more challenging because it had to contain a great deal of information without the help of physical pictures to go along with the items that were described. Because of this, I did my best to treat each item in the brand approved typographical manner. I used color to help separate things and create hierarchy. I then used icons and an image at the top to create give some visuals and help to tie the entire layout together.
BUSINESS CARDS

The design I chose for the business cards was very simplistic. Because I believe two sided card designs work best in brand awareness, I chose to design the business cards around that. The front is a simplistic design that features the logo, the link to the website, and a series of background graphics that is consistent with items like the site and menu. The back features the same bookmark/logo combination that is consistent on other branded items along with a large name for the client, and contact information tied together with various icons.
