Innovation in donation – wave us a give.

It’s common pence is a donation panel allowing people to wave 10p to charity with their smart phones, contactless credit cards and oyster cards. Panels have the potential to be hung anywhere, encouraging everyone to wave spare change to charity. Given the ease of donating, research suggests the level of overall donation is likely to increase due to the velocity of money

Contactless payment cards and debit cards, smartcards or other devices use radio-frequency identification for making secure payments. The transactions can be almost twice as fast as a conventional cash, credit, or debit card purchase and purchases.  Because no signature or PIN entry is typically required for purchases under £20 it’s common pence is the perfect platform for small donation transactions.

The project has grown since it's first protoype and is now branching into handheld donation panels, transforming and easing the role of volunteer charity workers who are faced with the almost impossible task of gathering donations on the street. It's common pence removes the hassle from donating, returning the choice to you. Given the set donation amount of 10p, the panels encourage crowd-funding.
Charity is a sector that I believe, should be at the forefront of innovation.
