Petén, Oct 2018

The route continues... between Belize, Mexico and Guatemala an enormous patch of jungle known as Petén (the largest department of Guatemala) is still an area of difficult territory to explore where ancestral treasures of the Mayans are still hidden, this enormous expanse of jungle serves as a border between the three countries
Flores is the municipal seat of Petén, the historic part of the city is located on a small island connected by a bridge in Lake Petén-Itza
Lake Peten Itza is the third largest in the country, very important for the Mayan worldview... from the small community of El Remate, you can see a pristine lake with small wooden piers surrounded by lilies where you can swim and spend the day.
Near the community of El Remate begins the road to Tikal, the ancient Mayan city, one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the world, it would be difficult to see the entire site in one day, from some of its pyramids you can see the great extension of the Mayan jungle
These pictures are part of a project developed between 2018 and 2020, a journey from the southern border of Mexico to Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia.
