Project 5 - Sundance Film Festival

Project 5 - Sundance Film Festival
For project 5 I decided to go with a typography based approach. I decided not to utilize any images or icons within the design of this project. My choice of colors came from inspiration that I saw online. I took the colors that I saw from a palette and uploaded the image to coolors.co and was able to find the exact colors used within the palette to use for my project. I instantly was drawn to the green color hues, as well as the peachy color and the yellowish/beige color that I decided to use for my logo and all of my branding for Sundance Music Festival.

I chose these colors specifically due to the fact that Sundance is located outdoors and I wanted to use organic colors that would represent that earthy vibe. In psychology the color green is known to evoke a calming effect and is known to decrease negative emotions. It's also known for being associated with growth and renewal which can lead to optimism and balance. I find this very intriguing because when designing this poster the most prominent element I wanted to utilize was balance. I decided that the yellowish/beige and peach color created great contrast from the green hues that I decided to go with for the design.

For the font throughout all of the branding I used Gemsbuck 01 black. I went on Adobe Illustrator and manipulated the font a bit by adjusting the kerning and duplicating the logo and adding it as a backdrop to the original and lowering the opacity. This is how I came to the final design of my logo. I really enjoyed this project because I'm currently enrolled in Typography 1 and I thought that it was great that I was able to utilize what I learned throughout the semester in that class and use it within this Graphic Design 2 class. It gave me an opportunity to practice my skills a bit more. I find this project to be beneficial in the sense of being able to have hands-on experience with what we will be doing within our careers once we graduate. Having the creative freedom and control of this branding was very exciting and really gave me an opportunity to think outside of the box.
