Study Abroad: Photographing the City Final Project
The main concept for my project is finding a moment of peace in such a fast-paced environment. Something I noticed when I arrived in London is that everyone is on the go. I think that is the way that most places function, but it is more visible in place like London due to the sheer amount of people. The problem with this is that sometimes we are moving so fast that we lose a sense of reality and can lose our footing. This idea weighed heavy on my mind because I fall victim to this a lot and didn’t want to let it get the best of me in these couple of months while I live in an exciting city. With this idea in mind, I wanted to capture moments of people finding time to stop and take it all in. I went to highly populated areas of the city and just stood around and waited. These people were hard to come by, but once I did they were easy to snap a picture of. Based on what I wanted to convey, I think that I reached my objective. I accomplished this by showing the dynamic of stillness and movement, while also providing two images that set the scene of how fast people move around the city.

The final layout of this project is set up as four high dynamic images being sandwiched into between two images of pure slow shutter speed. I did this because I thought it emphasized the idea that people never stop instead of just capturing all six images with the still and movement dynamic. I also chose the method of how I would want this to be presented as a photo book because I want it to read like a story and I think that every image could still stand alone.
