Sunshine Communities App and Collateral

Sunshine Communities App Prototype and Collateral
Spring 2022 - ART 254 Communication Design Studio I

I chose Sunshine Communities as my focus company for this class project. Sunshine Communities is a non-profit organization that houses and supports individuals with developmental, intellectual, and cognitive disabilities in Maumee, OH. I created an app for the organization’s two retail businesses, Georgette’s, a coffee shop, and their Art Studio. To supplement the app’s development, I designed three additional pieces of collateral that could physically be implemented in the stores.
Non-Profit Analysis and Company Styleboard
I began my ideation process with research into Sunshine's mission and values, and conducted a SWOT analysis that helped guide and identify the areas to design for. Then I developed a styleboard of their current digital presence, reflecting photography, colors, typography, and additional design elements.
Personas and Empathy Maps
I created three completely different personas that could be impacted by Sunshine’s services. The first is a woman with disabilities, the second is a grandmother of a child who resides under Sunshine’s care, and the third is a high school volunteer. These personas' needs and desires were used to develop the app and additional collateral pieces.
Figma Workspace
I used Figma to create my app's prototype.
Interactive Figma Prototype
Below is a full interactive, designed, and developed app for Sunshine's retail businesses.
Additional Collateral Pieces
For my additional collateral pieces, I designed a full set of takeout materials for Georgette’s. This included disposable bags, cups, utensils, and a business card to include with the order. I also created a shelf tag for artwork being sold and an artist tag to be attached to each piece. The tag includes a photo and a couple sentences about the individual who created the art.
