Compositing and Motion Graphics
The brief for my final college project detailed the need for a motion graphics sequence for a fictional TV series/film intro credits. Inspired by the 2014 crime series "True Detective", I focused on creating a similar style of credits with reference to my home city of Aberdeen. During the research phase I gathered stock free footage of actors and clips that I could use in the animation along with taking various photographs of areas in Aberdeen that would suit the crime theme. The clips used were brought into After Effects and rotoscoped, cropping out any unnecessary background footage. I was then able to apply a double exposure effect onto the silhouette of the characters and add a variety of clips within those silhouettes, creating a unique effect. The "True Granite" title is another reference to the well-known show, with the word "granite" included as Aberdeen is known by the nickname "The Granite City" because of the grey granite that many of the buildings are made from.
