Texas builds some of the best... that includes in softball. Infielder and recent graduate Janae Jefferson holds the Texas record with 270 Career Hits! 

I knew I really wanted to get an action defensive shot for this design of Jefferson, alongside an offensive batting or base running shot. The diving shot stood out to me, especially because the dirt came up and created texture and movement. 

The blue background was edited to be a grey/whitewash, I believe it's some type of fabric. The texture it creates is really cool. I wanted to make sure to include a bit of that standout UT orange, so I made the 270 Career Hits pop in that color. The brush stroke in the background was color corrected to be a cream/tan color. 

The fonts used were Beornheard and the Cincoyo. I used cincoyo specifically because of its Texas/ rodeo feel. Jefferson is a Texas native from Humble. 

I did a lot of work playing with the layout of this design. I edited the batting photo of Janae to give it a warm sepia tone. I felt like it set that scene a bit better. I also intentionally left a lot of the dirt coming up in the diving photo. She made a diving catch! I wanted that impact to be felt because... HOW COOL!!!  Every softball player thinks about their moment to make a catch like this. 

The '270 Career Hits' was something I went back and forth with. I thought a lot about if I should place it in front of the batting photo. In the end I did. 

I placed Janae's name at the bottom instead of the top because it felt the best. I really like the cincoyo font for her name. 

After 5 years of hard work, Janae finished her career on the field every college softball player hopes to touch. On top of that she hold the record for career hits for her institution.
