When Jeff Koons Turned Art Deco

Jeff Koons is a famous contemporary artist. He did numerous installation arts that became popular to the public. His works are very captivating, colorful and impressive. I chose one of his famous installation titled “Hanging Heart” to reinterpret it into Art Deco. I like this particular installation because the subject is really simple, but he made it look so unique. I reinterpret the installation by using the colors gold and black because Art Deco reminded me of the movie “The Great Gatsby”. I used lines, geometric shapes, and patterns to highlight the stylized feature of this period. This created symmetry into my whole work. I also included sun rays on the background since it is one of the popular elements in Art Deco style. This also helps focus and give importance to the subject matter. I decided to use different line weights in creating the heart to differentiate several elements on the subject. Lastly, the inspirations behind my reinterpretation are mostly from the movie “The Great Gatsby” and several famous architectures.
