Recreating the Girl with a Pearl Earring

During my recreational project, the class was tasked with a day of being creative with recreating someone's recreation of famous paintings. This task was just for the day so each of us had to pick the recreation piece we wanted to recreate individually. I've picked someone's recreation picture of The Girl With A Pearl Earring by Jan Vermeer.

What I've done first was drawing out the picture in my sketch book. I rarely draw animals to this was also a good learning experience for me on practising my anatomy on animals such as in this scenario, a dog. Once the anatomy was done, I went on to add the accessories and the details that presents the image of the dog in my drawing as a dog. This sketch and the reference picture would be used later on once imported into Photoshop as a reference to what I need to draw and the colouring.
What I've started doing was outlining the sketch I've done of the picture and then by sampling the colouring of the original picture with the eyedrop tool, I coloured in the lines and using the paint brush and bucket tool to fill in the nonconnected lines and inside the lines. It was quite a challenge to fill in the lines with the paint bucket tool because when you fill a line that is connected to other lines with the same colour, they will also change colour too. So I had to resort in using the paint brush tool to colour in specific lines. Before I sent off my piece, I decided to experiment with the lighting in Photoshop and position it to create an effect over the layer itself.
