Blue-Winged Kookaburra

The Majestic Blue Winged Kookaburra

Common in open Eucalypt forest and woodland the tropics and subtropics, especially those near wetlands.
This northern Kookaburra with its mad-looking white iris and insane-sounding calls is slightly smaller than the Laughing Kookaburra,  a slimmer body, larger head and an even bigger bill.
Often gives territorial calls, starting with staccato throaty you notes and builds to an excited climax of hoarse screeches yelps and cackles.

If you have never heard the Kookaburra call be it the Laughing or Blue winged, then you are in for a treat when you do.

This is one of the Australian iconic birds, whenever I hear it it reminds me what I love about my home Australia.
Thank you for visiting its very much appreciated

Enjoy!
