Lil Betty (Cartoon Royalty) is a project heavily inspired by my love of Tim Burton and The Nightmare Before Christmas, Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes, and of course cartoons from the 1930's.
Back Story
Lil Betty is the illegitimate love child of a Vaudville dancing mother, (“Bae”) turned world renowned beauty icon/celebrity entrepreneur. And her father, (“Pops”) a common sailor man turned shipping magnate but is now retired and spends his days fishing on a tiny, rickety old boat. And while she's always had it made because of her larger than life family, she's not certain who SHE is or what her direction or purpose is in life. What can be said about her is that she's a free spirit like her energetic mother and an adventurer like her father and with those things combined she seems to find herself in a whole lot of trouble.
Main Story
lil Betty runs into the devil on a beach in California. Unbeknownst to them, they accidentally swap phones. After going their separate ways, she receives a call from the dark one and is made frighteningly aware of the mishap. She’s instructed to “return it, or else.” implying armageddon is upon them if she doesn’t. Problem is, Bubzy, the stubborn shape shifting cell phone has a mind of his own and doesn’t wanna go back, so its gonna be one hell of a trip!
I had a lot of fun reimagining "the Classics" I imagine the originals somewhat like rockstars.
