Misbah Joy Joseph's profile

Sitting for an SHRM Certification Exam

Misbah Joy Joseph is the head of human resources and recruiting at PGM in New York City. In addition to her responsibilities in this role, Misbah Joy Joseph functions as an active member of the Society of Human Resources.

The Society of Human Resources (SHRM) provides members with a depth of professional resources and benefits, including certification through the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams. Individuals must meet membership criteria prior to sitting for the exam. To begin, they must consider their academic experience. For example, an individual with a graduate degree relevant to the human resources (HR) profession requires 3 years of work experience to sit for the SHRM-SCP exam, while someone with a non-HR bachelor’s degree requires 5 years of professional experience.

In regards to work experience, titles have no bearing on an individual’s ability to sit for the exam. Instead, SHRM evaluates how relevant HR processes are to a person’s position or past experiences and how many hours they have logged in HR-related activities. It should be noted that exceptions can be made to exam requirements, such as student eligibility allowances made through the SHRM Academic Initiative staff.

To learn more about joining the more than 300,000 international SHRM members around the world in achieving SHRM certification, please visit www.shrm.org.
