The wristbands have more than just one function. They function as entrance wristbands, they have a chip with preloaded funds and food vouchers for any payments, they function as a safety measure as the chip contains information such as medical aid etc. The chip has a tracking device that is only activated inside the SXSW vicinity where the chip records your movements.

At the end of SXSW each person can get a personalised map of where they went at the 2021 SXSW and can see where they spend the majority of their time. This map can be printed on a poster or any apparel item of their choosing.

This will encourage the attendees to return the following year, to widen their scope of where they go and to have their own piece of history.
